‘Virtual police station’ in Kochi soon

Kochi: The first ‘virtual police station’ will come into being in Kerala by next month, officials said yesterday.
An initiative of the Kochi city police, the virtual police station will essentially be a kiosk with a machine with touch-screen facility for providing all information needed by the public. The screen will have the home page of the website of the city police.
It will handle services including informing people of the status of a complaint lodged with the police and details of the progress of a police inquiry for purposes like issuing passports.
“These centres will provide basic services so that people can get them without physically visiting the station for such things,” Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham said. “We are in talks with a few service providers for setting up the centre.”
The facility to track the status of complaints registered with the Non-Resident Keralites Affairs (NORKA) Department is already available on the city police’s website www.kochicitypolice.org.
The virtual police station also offers services like Internet telephony, SMS and e-mail to track complaints or register a new one. Web cameras will be installed at the ‘virtual station’ so that those who want their grievances addressed and the officers attending them can see each other.

Impressive growth in cargo movement at Cochin airport

Nedumbassery: The international movement of cargo from Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) has registered a year-on-year growth of 5,000 tonnes during the last fiscal.

The total cargo exports comprising both general and perishable goods during the last financial year stood at 20,600 tonnes, up against 15,024 tonnes the year before.

It also witnessed an improvement in the volume of imports with the quantity rising to 6,898 tonnes from 5,828 tonnes in the corresponding term.

However, a slight fall was recorded in domestic cargo movement, with both inbound and outbound cargo handled remaining around 5,000 tonnes. The exports during the first month of the ongoing fiscal stood at 2,539 tonnes, comprising 1,893 tonnes of perishable commodities.

Airport officials said that perishable goods accounted for over 50 per cent of the total exports last fiscal and its share was bound to increase in the coming years as the recently launched Centre for Perishable Cargo (CPC) gained momentum.

Efforts were on to improve the average daily export of perishable commodities to 100 tonnes in six months from the present rate of 60-70 tonnes by regularising commercial freighter operations.
Farmers’ conclave

Meanwhile, the airport company is planning to organise a farmers’ conclave with the theme ‘agriculture for export’ on June 2 and 3.

The event, to be conducted in association with block panchayats, will give a chance for farmers to strike buyback agreements with their buyers overseas which would ensure optimum utilisation of the CPC.

NEW DELHI, May 6: Low cost carrier SpiceJet has added eight more daily flights offering additional connections out of cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Kochi.
The airline now has six daily flights between Delhi and Mumbai, three daily flights between Delhi and Kolkata, three daily flights between Delhi and Ahmedabad and two daily connections between Delhi and Kochi.
The new flights include Kolkata-Delhi, Delhi-Kolkata, Delhi-Mumbai, Mumbai-Delhi, Mumbai-Kochi, Kochi-Mumbai, Delhi-Kochi (via Mumbai), Kochi-Delhi (via Mumbai), Ahmedabad-Delhi and Delhi-Ahmedabad.

Four new Jazeera destinations

Jazeera Airways announced that it will fly to four new destinations from Kuwait and Bahrain from June 1, in addition to increasing its frequency to six flights to Dubai.

CEO Andrew Cowen said in a press release that the airline will operate direct flights to Mumbai, Delhi, Sanaa and Salalah, in addition to the first direct flights from Bahrain to the Yemeni capital.

He added that two new Airbus A-320s will be added to Jazeera's fleet, which will total 10 airplanes. Cowen said the number of flights to Bahrain and Dubai will go from two to three as of June 2009. He added that all flights from Dubai will be via Kuwait. Direct flights from Dubai to Khartoum and Cochin will be halted.

Petronet, Exxon Agree on Deal

NEW DELHI -- U.S. oil major Exxon Mobil Corp. Friday reached an agreement with its first Asian customer to sell liquefied natural gas from its share in the Gorgon project, off western Australia, tapping emerging markets' hunger for energy supplies.

Under the 20-year term contract, to be finalized in June, Exxon will annually supply 1.5 million metric tons of LNG to India's Petronet LNG Ltd., the two companies said in a joint statement, without disclosing commercial details.

"... an agreement has been reached on intent to supply LNG... (the two companies) would continue working on binding agreements to conclude the purchase and sale in June," the statement said.

India is emerging as a key LNG market in Asia along with China at a time when traditional buyers like Japan are reducing purchases. Both India and China want to raise imports of cleaner-burning gas to cut reliance on burning coal and foreign oil, which are highly polluting.

Separately, Exxon is nearing a deal to sell 2 million tons of LNG a year to PetroChina Co., Dow Jones reported in March.

"We are continuing discussion with other interested parties for the sale of LNG from Gorgon," an Exxon spokesperson said on phone. She said almost all of Exxon's LNG share in the Gorgon project will likely be sold to Asian customers.

PetroChina's Chairman Jiang Jiemin in March said the company will likely sign an LNG import deal with Exxon in the first half of this year.

The Gorgon field, with potential reserves of more than 40 trillion cubic feet of gas, is being developed by Exxon, Chevron Corp. and Royal Dutch Shell PLC.

Chevron is the largest owner of Gorgon, with a 50% stake, and Royal Dutch Shell and Exxon hold 25% each. Chevron recently won conditional approval from an Australian regulator for an expanded Gorgon project and expects to make a final investment decision before the end of the year.

Petronet plans to ship the Gorgon LNG to its new receiving terminal being built in the southern Indian city of Kochi. The Kochi terminal will have a capacity to import 2.5 million tons of LNG a year and is expected to start operations in 2011.

Petronet's Dahej terminal in western India has doubled its capacity to 10 million tons. It gets 5 million tons of LNG from Qatar's RasGas under a long-term contract, slated to increase to 7.5 million tons by the year-end.

The agreement with Exxon comes a few weeks after Reliance Industries Ltd. brought online India's biggest natural gas field to be discovered in more than three decades.

The D6 block, located off the country's east coast in the Krishna Godavari basin, will produce nearly 80 million standard cubic meters a day of gas once peak output starts, almost doubling the Asian nation's current output. Existing supplies of the fuel are nearly half of the country's requirement, forcing many fertilizer and power plants operate below capacity.

India faces a power deficit of about 15% on average. Gas-based plants, which form nearly 10% of the total generation capacity, are forced to run at less than 60% of their capability due to the shortage.

KRL expansion have pumped in over Rs.10000 crore into the economy.
So is the mega projects like malls and star hotels under construction. Lulu Mall alone
has an investment of Rs.1200 crore. The hotels under construction has an investment of
Rs. 1300 crore. Compare this with the total stimulus spending by the Govt. for the whole
state of Kerala which is just Rs.5000 crore over two years !!

Shobha group to set up knowledge park in Kochi

Thrissur , May 10 : A Rs 5,000-crore high-tech knowledge park, focussing on fundamental research on agriculture, biotechnology and information, will be set up by Shobha Developers Limited at Kochi, according to company regional director P Ramakrishan.
Work on the proposed park, spread over 400 acres, would start soon. On completion, expected within 8-10 years, it would provide direct employment to about 75,000 people in four phases and indirect employment to about 2.25 lakh, he said

Companies from India and abroad would be engaged in the research activities in the park, he said.

All hurdles in clearance of the project had been removed and government approval would be received soon after the election guidelines were withdrawn, he said.

SDL's overall performance was excellent for the year ending March 2009 and its financial results would be declared next week. The company's housing project work in Thrissur was progressing well, he said.

Premium buses from September

KOCHI: Premium low-floor and mini buses are likely to ply on the city streets in September.

Besides Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram city would also get the buses as part of a urban transport programme supported by the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.

Kochi will have 50 low floor AC and 120 low-floor ordinary buses. The city will get 30 mini buses too. Thiruvananthapuram city will get 120 low-floor ordinary buses and 30 low-floor AC buses. The buses would be swanky ones fitted with modern navigation and communication facilities.

The Kerala State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has placed the purchase orders for the vehicles. The first batch of buses is expected to be delivered next month, officials said.

A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) with the representatives of the Transport and Local Self Government departments, KSRTC and the Mayors of Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram will be formed for the management of the fleet of buses. The chairman of the KSRTC will head the SPV. The proposal for forming the SPV is likely to come up before the State cabinet for clearance soon. The routes for service and the management of buses will be finalised by the director board of the SPV.

Buses have started operating in cities like Lucknow and Ahmedabad which have also been selected for the transport project, officials said.

The buses would provide point-to-point service to the city commuters. The low-floor buses would benefit the disadvantaged sections of the society including the disabled and the elderly, they said.

The Central and State governments and the civic bodies will chip in with funds for the bus project. The share of the Urban Local Bodies will be raised by the KSRTC.

It is estimated that cars and two-wheelers constitute around 80 per cent of the vehicles that enter the city. Once the premium buses start operating, people may tend to use them leaving their private vehicles back home. The reduction in the number of private vehicles entering the city would help in easing the traffic pressure and reduce the atmospheric pollution, hoped authorities.

At the same time, they are also sceptical about the time that may be needed for the society to accept the culture of using the public transport system in place of private vehicles. Civic representatives had also aired their concern that the addition of around 200 buses would further worsen the traffic congestion in the city.

ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ വില്‌പനയാകുന്ന സ്വര്‍ണ്ണത്തിന്റെ 17 ശതമാനം കേരളത്തിലാണ്‌. അതിനാലാണ്‌ ഏരന്‍സ്‌ ഗോള്‍ഡ്‌ സൂക്ക്‌ ഗ്രൂപ്പ്‌ ആറാമത്തെ ഗോള്‍ഡ്‌ സൂക്ക്‌ കേരളത്തില്‍ സ്ഥാപിക്കുന്നതെന്ന്‌ ആഷിഷ്‌ഗുപ്‌ത പറഞ്ഞു. ഡല്‍ഹി, ഗുര്‍ഗാവ്‌, ലൂധിയാന, ജയ്‌പൂര്‍ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലാണ്‌ നിലവിലുള്ള ഗോള്‍ഡ്‌ സൂക്കുകള്‍. എട്ടു ലക്ഷം ചതുരശ്രയടിയിലുള്ള ചെന്നൈയിലെ സൂക്ക്‌ വര്‍ഷാവസാനം തുറക്കും. ഒപ്പം ഇന്‍ഡോറിലും അമൃത്‌സറിലും സൂക്കുകള്‍ സ്ഥാപിക്കുകയാണ്‌. പത്തുസംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലെ 24 നഗരങ്ങളില്‍ നാലുവര്‍ഷത്തിനകം ഗോള്‍ഡ്‌ സൂക്കുകള്‍ സ്ഥാപിക്കാനാണ്‌ പദ്ധതി.

കേരളത്തില്‍ കോഴിക്കോട്‌, തൃശ്ശൂര്‍, കൊല്ലം, തിരുവനന്തപുരം എന്നിവിടങ്ങളില്‍ കൂടി ഗോള്‍ഡ്‌സൂക്ക്‌ സ്ഥാപിക്കും. അഞ്ചുവര്‍ഷത്തിനകം കേരളത്തില്‍ 1,000 കോടി രൂപ നിക്ഷേപിക്കാനാണ്‌ തീരുമാനം. ഇതില്‍ വൈറ്റില ഗോള്‍ഡ്‌ സൂക്കിന്‌ 125 കോടി രൂപയായി. കളമശ്ശേരിയിലെ കിന്‍ഫ്ര ഹൈടെക്‌പാര്‍ക്കില്‍ 33 ഏക്കര്‍ സ്ഥലം ഗോള്‍ഡ്‌ ആന്‍ഡ്‌ ഡയമണ്ട്‌ പാര്‍ക്ക്‌ സ്ഥാപിക്കാന്‍ ഏരന്‍സ്‌ ഗോള്‍ഡ്‌ സൂക്ക്‌ ഗ്രൂപ്പിന്‌ അലോട്ട്‌ചെയ്‌തിട്ടുണ്ട്‌. ഇവിടെ 500 ലേറെ ഉത്‌പാദകരുടെ വ - സ്വര്‍ണ്ണാഭരണ ഹബ്ബ്‌ സ്ഥാപിക്കാനാണ്‌ പദ്ധതി. 600 കോടി രൂപയുടെ ഈ നിക്ഷേപം 5,000 പേര്‍ക്ക്‌ തൊഴിലവസരം ഒരുക്കും.
ഈ രംഗത്ത്‌ പ്രൊഫഷണല്‍ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തിന്റെ അഭാവം പരിഹരിക്കാന്‍ ജം ആന്റ്‌ ജ്വല്ലറി ട്രെയിനിങ്‌ ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റിയൂട്ട്‌ സ്ഥാപിച്ച്‌ അമേരിക്കന്‍ ബിരുദങ്ങള്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെടെയുള്ളവ നല്‍കാന്‍ സാധ്യതയൊരുക്കും. സര്‍ട്ടിഫിക്കറ്റ്‌, ഡിപ്ലോമ കോഴ്‌സുകളും ഉണ്ടാകും. ഉത്‌പാദകര്‍ക്കായി പ്രദര്‍ശന കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളും സജ്ജീകരിക്കും. ഹോട്ടല്‍, റീട്ടെയില്‍, അപ്പാര്‍ട്ടുമെന്റുകള്‍ എന്നിവയും ഇവിടെ ഒരുക്കും.

ഗൂര്‍ഗാവില്‍ 40 ഏക്കര്‍ സ്ഥലത്ത്‌ ഗോള്‍ഡ്‌ ആന്‍ഡ്‌ ഡയമണ്ട്‌ പാര്‍ക്ക്‌ എന്ന പേരില്‍ പ്രത്യേക സാമ്പത്തികമേഖല സ്ഥാപിക്കാനും ഏരന്‍സ്‌ ഗോള്‍ഡ്‌ സൂക്ക്‌ ഗ്രൂപ്പിന്‌ അനുമതി ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്‌. അഞ്ചു വര്‍ത്തിനകം ഇത്‌ പൂര്‍ത്തിയാകും. 55 ലക്ഷം ചതുരശ്രഅടി സ്ഥലം വികസിപ്പിച്ചെടുക്കാന്‍ 750 കോടി രൂപയുടെ നിക്ഷേപമാണ്‌ കണക്കാക്കുന്നത്‌.

Premium buses from September

KOCHI: Premium low-floor and mini buses are likely to ply on the city streets in September.

Besides Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram city would also get the buses as part of a urban transport programme supported by the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.

Kochi will have 50 low floor AC and 120 low-floor ordinary buses. The city will get 30 mini buses too. Thiruvananthapuram city will get 120 low-floor ordinary buses and 30 low-floor AC buses. The buses would be swanky ones fitted with modern navigation and communication facilities.

The Kerala State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has placed the purchase orders for the vehicles. The first batch of buses is expected to be delivered next month, officials said.

A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) with the representatives of the Transport and Local Self Government departments, KSRTC and the Mayors of Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram will be formed for the management of the fleet of buses. The chairman of the KSRTC will head the SPV. The proposal for forming the SPV is likely to come up before the State cabinet for clearance soon. The routes for service and the management of buses will be finalised by the director board of the SPV.

Buses have started operating in cities like Lucknow and Ahmedabad which have also been selected for the transport project, officials said.

The buses would provide point-to-point service to the city commuters. The low-floor buses would benefit the disadvantaged sections of the society including the disabled and the elderly, they said.

The Central and State governments and the civic bodies will chip in with funds for the bus project. The share of the Urban Local Bodies will be raised by the KSRTC.

It is estimated that cars and two-wheelers constitute around 80 per cent of the vehicles that enter the city. Once the premium buses start operating, people may tend to use them leaving their private vehicles back home. The reduction in the number of private vehicles entering the city would help in easing the traffic pressure and reduce the atmospheric pollution, hoped authorities.

At the same time, they are also sceptical about the time that may be needed for the society to accept the culture of using the public transport system in place of private vehicles. Civic representatives had also aired their concern that the addition of around 200 buses would further worsen the traffic congestion in the city.

I am not sure how these buses will ply Kochi roads. It will be interesting to see how these buses navigate through potholes and curbs that are 1 - 2 ft deep.

കൊച്ചി: തുടര്‍ച്ചയായി 10 വര്‍ഷം നഷ്‌ടത്തിലായ ശേഷം കഴിഞ്ഞ സാമ്പത്തികവര്‍ഷത്തില്‍ 43 കോടി രൂപ അറ്റാദായം നേടിയ പൊതുമേഖലാ രാസവളം നിര്‍മാണശാലയായ ഫാക്ട്‌ മറ്റ്‌ വ്യവസായമേഖലകളില്‍ ചുവടുറപ്പിക്കുന്നു. ഏലൂര്‍ ഉദ്യോഗമണ്ഡലിലും അമ്പലമേട്ടിലും ഫാക്ടിനുള്ള ഭൂമി ഫലപ്രദമായി വിനിയോഗിക്കാന്‍ മറ്റ്‌ പൊതുമേഖലാ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളുമായി സഹകരിച്ചാണ്‌ വൈവിധ്യവത്‌കരണം നടപ്പാക്കുന്നത്‌. കമ്പനി അടുത്തകൊല്ലം ഇരട്ടി വരുമാനം പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നതായി ചെയര്‍മാനും എം.ഡി.യുമായ ഡോ. ജോര്‍ജ്‌ സ്ല്‌ളീബ പറഞ്ഞു. കഴിഞ്ഞവര്‍ഷം വിറ്റുവരവ്‌ 2100 കോടി കടന്നിരുന്നു.

ഉദ്യോഗമണ്ഡലില്‍ കേരള ട്രേഡ്‌ സെന്റര്‍, അമ്പലമേട്ടില്‍ മെഡി സിറ്റി, കുടിവെള്ള പദ്ധതി, രണ്ട്‌ കണ്ടെയ്‌നര്‍ ഫ്രൈറ്റ്‌ സ്റ്റേഷനുകള്‍, ജിപ്‌സം പദ്ധതി എന്നിവയ്‌ക്കൊപ്പം നഷ്‌ടത്തിലോടുന്ന ഫാക്ട്‌ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക്‌ പുതുജീവന്‍ നല്‍കാന്‍ ഇന്ത്യന്‍ ഓയില്‍ കോര്‍പ്പറേഷന്‍, കൊച്ചിന്‍ ഷിപ്പ്‌യാര്‍ഡ്‌ എന്നിവയുമായി സഹകരിച്ച്‌ വ്യവസായ സംരംഭങ്ങളും ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്‌. പദ്ധതികളിലേറെയും മെയില്‍ ആരംഭിക്കും. വ്യവസായത്തിനുവേണ്ട ഭൂമി, അടിസ്ഥാനസൗകര്യം എന്നിവ ഫാക്ടും മുതല്‍മുടക്ക്‌ മറ്റ്‌ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളും നിര്‍വഹിക്കും.

കേരള സ്റ്റേറ്റ്‌ ഇന്‍ഡസ്‌ട്രിയല്‍ ഡവലപ്പ്‌മെന്റ്‌ കോര്‍പ്പറേഷനുമായി ചേര്‍ന്നുള്ള പദ്ധതികളാണ്‌ ട്രേഡ്‌ സെന്ററും മെഡി സിറ്റിയും. ഡല്‍ഹിയിലെ പ്രഗതിമൈതാനത്തിന്‌ സമാനമായ ട്രേഡ്‌ സെന്ററാണ്‌ ഉദ്യോഗമണ്ഡലില്‍ സ്ഥാപിക്കുന്നത്‌. ഫാക്ടിന്റെ 25 ഏക്കര്‍ ഭൂമിയില്‍ 3000 പേര്‍ക്ക്‌ ഇരിക്കാവുന്ന കണ്‍വെന്‍ഷന്‍ സെന്ററും, പ്രദര്‍ശന ഹാളും പണിയും.

അമ്പലമേട്ടിലെ തടാകതീരത്ത്‌ 50 ഏക്കറിലാണ്‌ മെഡി സിറ്റി ഒരുക്കുന്നത്‌. ഹെല്‍ത്ത്‌ ടൂറിസം ലക്ഷ്യമിടുന്ന ഹോട്ടല്‍ ശൃംഖലയും ഇതിലുണ്ടാകും. സര്‍ക്കാരുമായി ഇവയുടെ പ്രാഥമിക ചര്‍ച്ച പൂര്‍ത്തിയായിട്ടുണ്ട്‌. അമ്പലമേട്ടിലെ 160 ഏക്കര്‍വരുന്ന ശുദ്ധജല തടാകത്തില്‍നിന്ന്‌ ഫ്‌ളാറ്റുകള്‍ക്കും വന്‍കിട ഹോട്ടലുകള്‍ക്കും കുടിവെള്ളമെത്തിക്കുന്ന പദ്ധതി വാട്ടര്‍ അതോറിട്ടിയുമായി സഹകരിച്ചാണ്‌ ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത്‌. കുപ്പിയില്‍ കുടിവെള്ളം നിറച്ച്‌ വിപണിയിലെത്തിക്കുന്നതിനും പദ്ധതിയുണ്ട്‌.

സെന്‍ട്രല്‍ വെയര്‍ ഹൗസിങ്‌ കോര്‍പ്പറേഷന്‍, കണ്ടെയ്‌നര്‍ കോര്‍പ്പറേഷന്‍ ഓഫ്‌ ഇന്ത്യ എന്നിവയുമായി ചേര്‍ന്നാണ്‌ രണ്ട്‌ കണ്ടെയ്‌നര്‍ ഫ്രൈറ്റ്‌ സ്റ്റേഷനുകള്‍ സ്ഥാപിക്കുന്നത്‌. ദേശീയപാത 47ല്‍നിന്ന്‌ നിര്‍ദിഷ്‌ട വല്ലാര്‍പാടം കണ്ടെയ്‌നര്‍ ടെര്‍മിനലിലേക്കുള്ള നാലുവരിപ്പാത ഫാക്ട്‌ ഉദ്യോഗമണ്ഡല്‍ ടൗണ്‍ഷിപ്പിലൂടെയാണ്‌ കടന്നുപോകുന്നത്‌. പ്രത്യേക സാമ്പത്തികമേഖലയോടു ചേര്‍ന്ന ഈ പ്രദേശത്ത്‌ 80 ഏക്കര്‍ സ്ഥലം ഫാക്ട്‌ കുത്തകപ്പാട്ടത്തിന്‌ നല്‍കും. 150 കോടി രൂപയാണ്‌ പദ്ധതിയുടെ നിക്ഷേപം.

രാഷ്ട്രീയ കെമിക്കല്‍സ്‌ ആന്‍ഡ്‌ ഫെര്‍ട്ടിലൈസേഴ്‌സുമായി സഹകരിച്ച്‌ അമ്പലമേട്ടില്‍ പുരോഗമിക്കുന്ന 91 കോടി രൂപയുടെ ജിപ്‌സം ബില്‍ഡിങ്‌ പാനല്‍ നിര്‍മാണപദ്ധതി സപ്‌തംബറില്‍ കമ്മീഷന്‍ചെയ്യുമെന്ന്‌ ജോര്‍ജ്‌ സ്ല്‌ളീബ പറഞ്ഞു. മണല്‍, സിമന്റ്‌, ഇഷ്‌ടിക എന്നിവയുടെ ഉപയോഗം കുറയ്‌ക്കുന്ന ചെലവുകുറഞ്ഞ കെട്ടിനിര്‍മാണ രീതിക്ക്‌ ഇത്‌ പ്രചാരം നല്‍കും. ആദിവാസി മേഖലയില്‍ ജിപ്‌സം കെട്ടിടനിര്‍മാണ പദ്ധതിക്ക്‌ മന്ത്രി ബിനോയ്‌ വിശ്വം സന്നദ്ധത പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്‌. 3000 വീടുകള്‍ നിര്‍മിച്ച്‌ നല്‍കാനാണ്‌ ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്നത്‌. 60 ലക്ഷം ടണ്‍ ജിപ്‌സം നിക്ഷേപം ഫാക്ടിലുണ്ട്‌. സിമന്റ്‌ കമ്പനികള്‍ക്ക്‌ 3.2 ലക്ഷം ടണ്‍ ജിപ്‌സം വിറ്റതിലൂടെ 25 കോടി നേടാനായി. നടപ്പുവര്‍ഷം ആറുലക്ഷം ടണ്ണിന്റെ വില്‌പനയാണ്‌ ലക്ഷ്യമിടുന്നത്‌. നിലവിലുള്ള രാസവള വ്യവസായത്തെ ലാഭകരമാക്കുന്നതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി സിങ്ക്‌ ചേര്‍ന്ന ഫാക്ടംഫോസ്‌ ജൂണില്‍ പുറത്തിറക്കും. മണ്ണിന്റെ ജൈവപുഷ്‌ടിക്ക്‌ അത്യാവശ്യം വേണ്ട സിങ്ക്‌ 50 ശതമാനം ഭൂമിയിലും കുറവായേ കാണാറുള്ളൂ. പുതിയ ഉത്‌പന്നം ഉത്‌പാദനമേഖലയ്‌ക്കും ഗുണംചെയ്യും. ഇന്ത്യന്‍ ഓയില്‍ കോര്‍പ്പറേഷനുമായുള്ള ഫാക്ട്‌ എന്‍ജിനീയറിങ്‌ ഡിവിഷന്റെ (ഫെഡോ) സംരംഭവും, കൊച്ചിന്‍ ഷിപ്പ്‌ യാര്‍ഡുമൊത്തുള്ള പള്ളുരുത്തിയിലെ ഫാക്ട്‌ എന്‍ജിനീയറിങ്‌ വര്‍ക്‌സ്‌ പദ്ധതിയും മെയില്‍ തുടങ്ങും.

പദ്ധതികളെല്ലാം പ്രാവര്‍ത്തികമാകുന്നതോടെ ഫാക്ടിന്‌ പ്രതിവര്‍ഷം 100 കോടി രൂപ ഇതര വരുമാനം പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നതായി ചെയര്‍മാന്‍ അറിയിച്ചു. ഇഗേ്‌നനായുമായി സഹകരിച്ച്‌ ഫാക്ട്‌ ട്രെയിനിങ്‌ ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റിയൂട്ടില്‍ എം.ബി.എ., ഫയര്‍ ആന്‍ഡ്‌ സേഫ്‌റ്റി കോഴ്‌സ്‌ എന്നിവ തുടങ്ങും. ഫാക്ടില്‍ വെല്‍ഡിങ്‌ ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിറ്റിയൂട്ട്‌ ഇപ്പോള്‍ത്തന്നെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്‌.

NEW DELHI, May 6: Low cost carrier SpiceJet has added eight more daily flights offering additional connections out of cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Kochi.
The airline now has six daily flights between Delhi and Mumbai, three daily flights between Delhi and Kolkata, three daily flights between Delhi and Ahmedabad and two daily connections between Delhi and Kochi.
The new flights include Kolkata-Delhi, Delhi-Kolkata, Delhi-Mumbai, Mumbai-Delhi, Mumbai-Kochi, Kochi-Mumbai, Delhi-Kochi (via Mumbai), Kochi-Delhi (via Mumbai), Ahmedabad-Delhi and Delhi-Ahmedabad.

Four new Jazeera destinations

Jazeera Airways announced that it will fly to four new destinations from Kuwait and Bahrain from June 1, in addition to increasing its frequency to six flights to Dubai.

CEO Andrew Cowen said in a press release that the airline will operate direct flights to Mumbai, Delhi, Sanaa and Salalah, in addition to the first direct flights from Bahrain to the Yemeni capital.

He added that two new Airbus A-320s will be added to Jazeera's fleet, which will total 10 airplanes. Cowen said the number of flights to Bahrain and Dubai will go from two to three as of June 2009. He added that all flights from Dubai will be via Kuwait. Direct flights from Dubai to Khartoum and Cochin will be halted.

The cancellations of Jazeera Airways flights are due to new restrictions in fifth freedom rights being implemented in the UAE. A new budget airline based in Dubai, FlyDubai Airlines is due for launch. We could expect FlyDubai filling in the cancelled flights by Jazeera.

Roads are much better now, on my visit early April, I was pleasantly surprised not to see

KOCHI: PWD Minister Mons Joseph has said that land acquisition was the major problem faced by the highway widening projects. Addressing the media after attending a review meeting of the National Highway Authority of India and other departments here on Tuesday, the Minister said shortage of staff in the Revenue Department was hampering land acquisition. The issue was being sorted out at the appropriate level, he said.

The Minister said the meeting discussed the prospects of re-tendering some of the works. The development of Kollam bypass, where the land acquisition has been completed, would be given special consideration. The work on the Vytilla–Aroor stretch was going on and was expected to be over by June, 2010. The labour problems faced in the execution of the work would be sorted out, he said.
Rail overbridges

The work on the Pullepady rail overbridge would be completed within seven months. The construction of Ponnurunni, Atlantis and Pachalam overbridges would be taken up by the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala, with the Kochi Corporation’s help, under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. The decision on the project at Vaduthala was yet to be finalised.

The land acquisition for the Angamaly-Karukutty stretch was being completed. The utility shifting on the road connecting Vallarpadam to the national highway was also in progress.
Notice issued

A show-cause notice was issued to the contractor of the Edapally railway overbridge and a reply was expected within a week. Termination of the contract would be considered if the reply is unsatisfactory, the Minister said. The project involved the participation of the Union government also and hence the State would not be able to take a unilateral decision.

Talks were held with World Bank for getting aid for the Kerala State Transport Project involving an investment of over Rs.1300 crore, he said in reply to a question. Changes at the ministerial level had not affected the progress of the work on highways, he said.

KOCHI: The Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore (FACT) and the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) will reach gas supply agreements with Petronet LNG Limited (PLL) by the end of this month.

The understanding to sign the agreement was announced at the end of a high-level meeting convened by T.K.A. Nair, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, here on Monday, to review the progress of the works on the International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) and the LNG terminal.

The gas supply agreements are being signed in view of the LNG-receiving and re-gasification facility on the Puthuvype Island being completed by the end of 2012. Put together, the two public sector companies will require a total of more than 2.75 million tonne gas. The ICTT project will be completed by November.

Kochi stands to benefit in a big way with the City Gas Project, meant to supply LNG through pipes to various parts of the city, expected to be commissioned by 2012.

The State government has been directed to take up land acquisition for pipelines to supply gas to various parts of the city and the State and also to neighbouring Mangalore.

It was announced at the end of the meeting that consumers for about four million tonnes of gas, out of the five million tonne capacity visualised for the Kochi LNG project, had been identified.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Departments of Ports, Road Transport and Highways, Chemicals and Fertilizers, NTPC, Gas Authority of India (GAIL) and PLL, among others.

Earlier, Mr. Nair visited the ICTT and LNG terminal sites where work is in progress.

പുതുവൈപ്പ് എല്‍എന്‍ജി ടെര്‍മിനലില്‍നിന്നുള്ള ആദ്യ പൈപ്പ് ലൈന്‍ കാസര്‍ഗോട്ടേക്ക്. 2012 -ല്‍ നിര്‍മാണം പൂര്‍ത്തിയാകുന്ന പെട്രോനെറ്റ് എല്‍എന്‍ജി കൊ ച്ചി നഗരത്തില്‍ സിറ്റി ഗ്യാസ് പദ്ധതി നടപ്പാക്കാനുള്ള പൈപ്പ് ലൈ നുകള്‍ ഇതിനു പുറമെയാണ്.
ടെര്‍മിനലിന്‍റെ നിര്‍മാണ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ 37% പൂര്‍ത്തിയായി. കഴിഞ്ഞദിവസം പദ്ധതിപ്രദേശം സന്ദര്‍ശിച്ച പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയുടെ പ്രിന്‍സിപ്പല്‍ സെക്രട്ടറി ടി.കെ.എ. നായരുമായി പെട്രോനെറ്റ് സിഎംഡി പി. ദാസ് ഗുപ്ത പദ്ധതി പുരോഗതി വിശദമായി ചര്‍ച്ചചെയ്തിരുന്നു. പദ്ധതിയുടെ പൂര്‍ണപ്രവര്‍ത്തന രേഖകള്‍ തയാറാണ്.
ടെര്‍മിനലില്‍നിന്നുള്ള ഗ്യാസ് വിതരണത്തിന്‍റെ ചുമതല നിര്‍വഹിക്കുന്ന ഗ്യാസ് അഥോറിറ്റി ഒഫ് ഇന്ത്യ(ഗെയ്ല്‍) പൈപ്പുകള്‍ സ്ഥാപിക്കാനുള്ള പ്രവര്‍ത്തന ങ്ങള്‍ അടുത്തുതന്നെ തുട ങ്ങും. കൊച്ചിയില്‍നിന്നും കാസര്‍ഗോട്ടേക്കും അവിടെനിന്നു മംഗലാപുരത്തേക്കും ബംഗളൂരുവിലേ ക്കും പൈപ്പ് ലൈനുകള്‍ സ്ഥാപിക്കും. അതിനു സ്ഥലമേറ്റെടുക്കുന്ന നടപടികള്‍ സംസ്ഥാനസര്‍ക്കാര്‍ തലത്തില്‍ നടക്കുകയാണെന്നും ഗെയ്ല്‍ മാര്‍ക്കറ്റിങ് ഡയറക്റ്റര്‍ ബി. തൃപാഠി പറഞ്ഞു.
എന്‍ജിനിയറിങ് വര്‍ക്കുകള്‍ 70% പൂര്‍ത്തിയായി. കണ്‍സ്ട്രക്ഷന്‍ 26%വും പൂര്‍ത്തിയായിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇപ്പോള്‍ പുതുവൈപ്പിനില്‍ 1659 തൊഴിലാളികളാണു നിര്‍മാണപ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളിലുള്ളത്. ഇവിടെ 5000ല്‍ അധികം തൊഴിലാളികളെ നിര്‍മാണാവശ്യങ്ങള്‍ക്കു നിയോഗിക്കും.
പുതുവൈപ്പ് ടെര്‍മിനലിലേക്കു ദ്രവീകൃത പ്രകൃതി വാതകമെത്തിക്കുന്നത് ഓസ്ട്രേലിയയില്‍ നിന്നാണ്. ഇതിനായി ഓസ്ട്രേലിയയിലെ ഗോര്‍ഗണ്‍ പ്രൊജക്റ്റ്സുമായി ധാരണയായിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഷെവ്റോണ്‍, എക്സോണ്‍ മൊബീല്‍, ഷെല്‍ എന്നീ മുന്‍നിര എണ്ണ- പ്രകൃതിവാതക കമ്പനികളുടെ കണ്‍സോഷ്യം വഴിയാണു ഗോര്‍ഗണ്‍ കൊച്ചിയിലേക്ക് എല്‍എന്‍ജി എത്തിക്കുക.
25 ലക്ഷം ടണ്‍ വാര്‍ഷികശേഷിയുള്ള ടെര്‍മിനലാണു പുതുവൈപ്പില്‍ സജ്ജീകരിക്കുക. ടെര്‍മിനലിനോടു ചേര്‍ന്ന് 500 മെഗാവാട്ട് വൈദ്യുതിനിലയത്തിന്‍റെ നിര്‍മാണപ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളും പുരോഗമിക്കുന്നു.

The Gulf based NRK Atlas Jewellery Group, is diversifying into real estate, and plans to invest about Rs 1,000 crore in Kerala in the next two to three years.

The group has planned three projects — two in Kochi and one in Kozhikode, Chairman, M M Ramachadran, told reporters here last night.

Atlas has carved out a niche for itself in the jewellery and health care industries across Gulf countries and is getting ready to invest rs 1000 crore in housing construction, multiplexes and commercial complexes in the state. It has formed three companies for this purpose — AtlasGold Townships India, R I Kanth and Atlas Golden Land & Developers, he said.

The group's first real estate project — Celestial Park is coming up at near the Nedumbassery airport. The Rs 50 crore project will have one, two and three bedroom luxury and duplex apartments complete with mini super market, multi gym, Yoga centre, beauty parlour, restaurant, cab on call, restaurant with room service.

The project, which will have 250 apartments, will come in one acre area and will have seven floors and would be handed over by June 30, 2011. The single bedroom will have 550 square feet, two bedrooms — of 820 sq feet and 1,100 sq feet and three bed apartment would be 1,488 sq feet. The pre launch offer price is Rs 2,700 per sq feet, he said.

Already 50 bookings have been completed.Among their other projects in the offing are a multiplex of 6 cinema houses, 200 shops and 150 luxury apartments. The group's investment would be Rs 400-500 crore.

Atlas would also be constructing flats and villas at nearby Kakkanad in a 10.5 acre area, with an investment of Rs 500 crore.
