Can I suggest that you add Air/train timings, today in Cochin, Hospitals and Hotels phone numbers and all those kind of information in the site too? If somebody need to find out something about Cochin yours could be a one-stop-shop for all the info and some exclusive pictures of Cochin.(Get some Cochin pics from new angles we havn't seen before, then it would be nice)For eg, the Marine Drive skyline from Bolgatty would be nice and catchy. I believe you will certainly have a Pictures Gallery in a 'sweet spot' of the site.

I think it would be beneficial if a live-link for Train, Bus and Flight timings is given in the front page.

My opinion is that the front page must have only a few sentences, maximum of 2-3 mid sized paragraphs. A flash banner, if it is affordable, would add to the charm.

We have one of the very funny corporation websites (@) to know about all the developments of the "Queen of the Arabian Sea"
It should fill the gap between Corporation and the common people. It doesn't!!! The Cochin Municipality has a website that doesn’t work. It cannot link beyond web pages relating to ‘Kerala History’ or ‘Kerala Tourism’. Everything else states ‘Coming soon…thank you for visiting.’ But, how soon is soon? That’s the perennial question. And we actually seek to call ourselves a metro?

It would great if Kochinow had chatrooms for its users to have conversations about issue that the city residents are facing. A common platform!!!

Just out of curiosity, who owns this site? And do you have a timeframe for the launch of the main website?

I really like the forums of Kochinow.com - helps me learn about the city I love so much.

Also as for suggestions, maybe you guys can list everything that would be important to someone new to Kochi - not a tourist but someone staying there - like doctors, schools and colleges, electricians, carpenters, different types of shops and their location etc. Also maybe a way for all members to interact with each other in real time environment.

I would like see some satellite imagery of Cochin City like Google Earth, Wikimapia and Microsoft Virtual Earth.

We should know what the local weather is also. This is a Google Map link for Cochin http://maps.google.com/Google Earth http://earth.google.com/ is an application used by City Planner and Transportation Designers worldwide. Of the three http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=10.02&lon ... rch=Cochin is the most navigatable and user friendly. A new application called Microsoft Virtuall Earth is on the scene. It would also be great if KochiNow had Google Sketch to let students from different part of the city draw what they visualize for their Dream Cochin.

It would be great if Kochi Now hosted subdomains for organizations based in Cochin like Better Kochi Response Group, Reinventing Cochin Project, Ernakulam District Residents Association, Metro Kochi Vikasana Samithi and several organizations based in Cochin that have have gotten started in recent months. I would like to get some discussions going about PPP among these oragnizations and our members(Forummers).

A section for realty projects on our website should be started!! and exclusive previews of upcoming mega projects by interviewing the respective company officials should be brought up!!!

I would like to see more forummers post in this thread!!! The more input the forummers give to the website administrator the chances of getting a better website will improve!!!
I really don't want to see another lame website like the one that Cochin Corporation has right now!!

I understand you have been working on a website. My concern will be the maintenance of the website. Without regular maintenance, a website for a city become useless the day after it is born. So, first and foremost, need to find a model where we can have a website self maintaining atleast 80% of it. I think this can be achieved only by having direct feeds in the webpage from information sources (Web services or subscription model).

For the content, I can think of the following for a start. I will update you along the way when I can think of anything else.

- Kochi city map
- Places of tourist interest in Ernakulam district
- Information of all State government offices in the city, links to their websites if any.
- Information of all Central government offices in the city, links to their websites if any.
- Bus Stands and bus routes available from each bus stand
- Railway Stations and trains/destinations served from each stations
- Boat Jetties and destinations served from each jetty
- A search facility to determine how to travel by public transport from point to point in the Greater Cochin area
- Hospitals and contact information
- Emergency Services and contact numbers
- Private Services (Probably can find some sponsors from this group)
o Mobile Phone operators
o Cooking Gas Services
o Service organizations
o Etc.
- Feed from news providers with news about city and surroundings
- Feed from City Police on traffic conditions (If possible get live feed from cameras placed around city for traffic monitoring)
- Have advertisements or a yellow page type listing for private business establishments like restaurants, retailers and earn money from them.

Has anyone seen any survey about what is the level of penetration of broadband service or even normal internet services in Cochin?
This is very important if the local population in Cochin is to benefit from a website and what is to be included in a website.
