കൊച്ചി: ചലച്ചിത്ര ശബ്ദലേഖനത്തിന്റെ എല്ലാ സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യാ പരിശീലനവും സാധ്യമാവുന്ന 'സൗണ്ട് സിറ്റി' കൊച്ചിയില്‍ ഉയരുന്നു. മലയാളിയും ഓസ്‌കര്‍ പുരസ്‌കാര ജേതാവുമായ റസൂല്‍ പൂക്കുട്ടിയുടെ കേരളത്തിലെ സ്വപ്നപദ്ധതിയാണ് 'ശബ്ദനഗരം'.

റെക്കോഡിങ് സ്റ്റുഡിയോകള്‍, തീയറ്ററുകള്‍, സൗണ്ട് ഡിസൈന്‍ ലാബ്, ക്രിയേറ്റീവ് വില്ലേജ്, മീഡിയ സ്‌കൂള്‍, ശബ്ദമിശ്രണ എക്‌സിബിഷന്‍ കേന്ദ്രം തുടങ്ങിയവ ഉള്‍പ്പെടെ ചലച്ചിത്ര ശബ്ദലേഖനവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട വന്‍കിട സൗകര്യങ്ങളാണ് 'സൗണ്ട് സിറ്റി'യില്‍ ഉണ്ടാവുകയെന്ന് റസൂല്‍ പൂക്കുട്ടി 'മാതൃഭൂമി'യോട് പറഞ്ഞു.

കൊച്ചിയില്‍ കാക്കനാടാണ് റസൂലിന്റെ 'ശബ്ദനഗരം' പദ്ധതിക്കായി പരിഗണിക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്. കാക്കനാട് ഇതിനായി ആറ് ഏക്കര്‍ സ്ഥലം റസൂല്‍ പൂക്കുട്ടി ഫൗണ്ടേഷന്‍ കണ്ടെത്തിക്കഴിഞ്ഞു. കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ വേഗത്തില്‍ മുന്നോട്ടുപോയാല്‍ രണ്ടുവര്‍ഷത്തിനകം പദ്ധതി യാഥാര്‍ഥ്യമാകും. 300 കോടിയോളം രൂപയുടേതാണ് 'ശബ്ദനഗരം' പദ്ധതി.

ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ മറ്റൊരിടത്തും ലഭ്യമാവാത്ത സിനിമാ ശബ്ദലേഖന-ശബ്ദമിശ്രണ സാങ്കേതിക സൗകര്യങ്ങള്‍ കേരളത്തില്‍ കൊണ്ടുവരികയെന്നതാണ് തന്റെ സ്വപ്നമെന്ന് റസൂല്‍ പറയുന്നു. പദ്ധതിക്കായി കേരള സര്‍ക്കാരിന്റെ പങ്കാളിത്തം തേടുന്നുണ്ട്. പദ്ധതിയുടെ ഡ്രാഫ്ട് അടുത്തദിവസം സര്‍ക്കാരിന് സമര്‍പ്പിക്കും. കേരളത്തിന്റെ സിനിമാ സാങ്കേതിക വിദ്യാ വികസനത്തില്‍ വന്‍ കുതിപ്പിന് വഴിയൊരുക്കുന്ന 'ശബ്ദനഗരം' പദ്ധതിക്ക് സര്‍ക്കാരിന്റെ സഹായമുണ്ടാവുമെന്നാണ് തന്റെ പ്രതീക്ഷയെന്നും റസൂല്‍ കൂട്ടിച്ചേര്‍ത്തു.

'സൗണ്ട് സിറ്റി'യില്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെടുന്ന മീഡിയ സ്‌കൂളില്‍ പത്ത് പേര്‍ക്കാണ് ഒരു ബാച്ചില്‍ പ്രവേശനം നല്‍കുക. ഇതില്‍ രണ്ടുപേര്‍ക്ക് പഠനം തികച്ചും സൗജന്യമായി അനുവദിക്കും. രണ്ടുപേര്‍ക്ക് 50 ശതമാനം ഫീസ് ഇളവും നല്‍കും. റസൂല്‍ പൂക്കുട്ടി ഫൗണ്ടേഷന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിന്‍ കീഴിലാവും 'സൗണ്ട് സിറ്റി' പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുക.

ലോ-ഫ്ളോര്‍ ബസ് സര്‍വീസ് കൂടുതല്‍ ലാഭത്തിലാക്കാന്‍ വീണ്ടും ഗതാഗത വകുപ്പിന്‍റെ ഇടപെടല്‍. ജനങ്ങളുടെ അഭിപ്രായം മാനിച്ചു ബസ് ചാര്‍ജിനെക്കുറിച്ചും റൂട്ട് ക്രമീകരണത്തെക്കുറിച്ചും തീരുമാനിക്കാനാണു ഗതാഗത വകുപ്പു ശ്രമിക്കുന്നത്. കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം ഗതാഗത മന്ത്രിതന്നെ ഇക്കാര്യം വ്യക്തമാക്കി.
നഷ്ടത്തിലോടുന്ന ലോ-ഫ്ളോര്‍ ബസുകള്‍ തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തു നിന്നു പിന്‍വലിക്കാനുള്ള നീക്കമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഇതിനെതിരേ ഉയര്‍ന്ന പ്രതിഷേധമാണു പുതിയ തീരുമാനമെടുക്കാന്‍ ഗതാഗത വകുപ്പിനെ പ്രേരിപ്പിച്ചത്. ജനങ്ങളുടെ അഭിപ്രായ സര്‍വെ നടത്തും. മാധ്യമ പ്രതിനിധികളുടെ നിര്‍ദേശങ്ങളും സ്വീകരിക്കും. ലോ-ഫ്ളോറിലേക്കു കൂടുതല്‍ യാത്രക്കാരെ ആകര്‍ഷിക്കാനുള്ള എല്ലാ നടപടികളും സ്വീകരിക്കും. ലോ-ഫ്ളോര്‍ ബസുകളുടെ നിരക്കു കുറയ്ക്കുന്ന കാര്യവും പരിഗണിക്കാന്‍ സാധ്യത. എന്നാല്‍ ലോ-ഫ്ളോര്‍ നഷ്ടത്തിലല്ലെന്നാണു കെഎസ്ആര്‍ടിസിയുടെ വാദം. പ്രതിദിനം ലഭിക്കുന്ന കളക്ഷന്‍ പ്രതീക്ഷയ്ക്കൊത്തുള്ളതാണ്. എന്നാല്‍ കളക്ഷന്‍ തുകയേക്കാള്‍ ചെലവു വരുന്നതിനാലാണു നഷ്ടം സംഭവിക്കുന്നത്.
ജനുവരി വരെ 6,14,174 രൂപയാണു ലോ-ഫ്ളോറുകളുടെ നഷ്ടം. ഒരു ബസിനു 85 ലക്ഷം രൂപയാണു വില. ശരാശരി വരുമാനം എല്ലാ റൂട്ടുകളില്‍ നിന്നും ലഭിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. എന്നാല്‍ ഈ തുക ബസിന്‍റെ അറ്റകുറ്റപ്പണി, ഡീസല്‍, ജീവനക്കാര്‍ എന്നിവരുടെ ശമ്പളം മുതലായവയ്ക്ക് അപര്യാപ്തമാണ്. കിലോ മീറ്ററിനു 48 രൂപയാണ് ഇത്തരം ചെലവുകള്‍ക്കു കണക്കാക്കുന്നത്. എന്നാല്‍ ഇപ്പോള്‍ ലഭിക്കുന്നത് 24 രൂപ മാത്രം.
ലക്ഷ്വറി സര്‍വീസ് എന്ന നിലയിലല്ല ലോ-ഫ്ളോര്‍ ബസിനെ കെഎസ്ആര്‍ടിസി കണക്കാക്കിയത്. സ്വന്തം കാറിലുള്ള യാത്രപോലെ ജനങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ബസിലും യാത്ര സജ്ജീകരിക്കുക എന്നതായിരുന്നു ലക്ഷ്യം. നമ്മുടെ നാട്ടില്‍ ഒരാളിന്‍റെ ആവശ്യത്തിനുപോലും ആളുകള്‍ കാര്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. ഈ കാറുകള്‍ പാര്‍ക്കു ചെയ്യാന്‍ നഗരത്തില്‍ സ്ഥലമില്ല. അപ്പോള്‍ കാറിലേതുപോലെ ഒരു യാത്ര ജനങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ബസില്‍ ലഭിക്കുകയാണെങ്കില്‍ എല്ലാവരും കാര്‍ അധികമായി ഉപയോഗിക്കില്ല. അതിലൂടെ നഗരത്തിലെ പാര്‍ക്കിങ് പ്രശ്നവും ഗതാഗതക്കുരുക്കും പരിഹരിക്കാനാകും എന്നതും കെഎസ്ആര്‍ടിസിയുടെ പ്രതീക്ഷയായിരുന്നു. പുതിയ നീക്കങ്ങളിലൂടെ ഇതു സാക്ഷാത്കരിക്കാനാകുമെന്നു കെഎസ്ആര്‍ടിസി അധികൃതര്‍ കരുതുന്നു.
പുതിയ 17 ലോ- ഫ്ളോര്‍ ബസുകള്‍കൂടി ഉടന്‍ നിരത്തിലിറക്കും. ഇതില്‍ 11 ബസുകള്‍ എസി ഇല്ലാത്തവയാണ്. എസി ഇല്ലാത്ത ബസുകളുടെ ചാര്‍ജ് സാധാരണക്കാര്‍ക്കും പ്രാപ്യമായ രീതിയിലായിരിക്കും. തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തും കൊച്ചിയിലും ഈ പരീക്ഷണം ഉണ്ടാകും. എസി ലോ-ഫ്ളോര്‍ ബസുകള്‍ക്കു തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തേതിനേക്കാള്‍ മികച്ച പ്രതികരണമാണു കൊച്ചിയില്‍ ലഭിക്കുന്നത്.

There is this issue of critical mass for the AC busses. One bus every hour will not attract much pax away from car. But if you have, say one bus in 10 minutes, people will opt for that instead of the car.

Not sure why they need to conduct a full study to make the AC buses profitable. I am sure they already know the routes with the highest bus traffic in and around Kochi. Just make sure the AC buses run on those routes and as Dileep said, increase the frequency to about every 10 mins. Apart from this the only other thing required is to ensure the public has easy to access information on the timings of the bus, routes, fares and any other important information.

Business District and still make only about Rs.12 loss per km.

Rayden, still if they do such a survey we can make good use of it. 100% respondents would demand service to central city areas immediately !! Any case, seems days are numbered for private bus system in Kochi as inevitably govt will be forced to put Kochi on public transport.

The Ernakulam market will be revitalised without damaging its essential character.

KOCHI: The Broadway and Ernakulam market heritage urban renewal project of the Kochi Corporation has been approved by the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission for funding.

The project was presented by the Kochi Mayor Mercy Williams and Monolita Chatterji, the lead technical associate of the civic body for the project, at New Delhi. The civic body would get a central assistance of Rs.22.1 crore for the project.

The redesigning of the Broadway Street for “pedestrianising” it during peak usage hours is one of the important components of the project. The Ernakulam market would be revitalised into a modern facility without damaging the scale and essential character of the architectural ensemble. A private-public participation project for the Market Square building is also planned, according to the project proposal. The road stretch between Banerjee Road and Market Square would be developed and branded as a new entry point into the project zone. Additional parking area will be created here to support the ‘pedestrianisation’ in the project zone.

The Broadway area was identified as the important part of the Ernakulam Central Area Heritage Zone. The civic body had assigned the responsibility of preparation of heritage and tourism projects including the Broadway project to the Centre for Heritage Environment and Development.

The authorities are hopeful of starting the project immediately as no land acquisition is required.

എറണാകുളം മാര്‍ക്കറ്റ്, ബ്രോഡ്വേ എന്നിവയുടെ വികസനത്തിനായി കോര്‍പ്പറേഷന്‍ തയാറാക്കിയ പദ്ധതിക്കു കേന്ദ്രാനുമതി. 22 കോടിയാണു രണ്ടു പദ്ധതികള്‍ക്കുംകൂടി ചെലവു പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നത്. കേന്ദ്ര സര്‍ക്കാരിന്‍റെ ജനറം പദ്ധതിയില്‍പ്പെടുത്തിയാണ് അനുമതി ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത്.
രണ്ടു പദ്ധതികള്‍ക്കും ഇന്നലെ കേന്ദ്ര സര്‍ക്കാരിന്‍റെ അനുമതിയായെന്നു മേയര്‍ പ്രൊഫ. മേഴ്സി വില്യംസ് “മെട്രൊ വാര്‍ത്ത’യോടു പറഞ്ഞു. 30 കോടി രൂപയുടെ പ്രൊജക്റ്റ് റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടായിരുന്നു സമര്‍പ്പിച്ചിരുന്നത്. ഇതില്‍ എട്ടു കോടിയുടെ ജലശുദ്ധീകരണ പദ്ധതിക്ക് ഈ ഘട്ടത്തില്‍ അനുമതി ലഭിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. മാര്‍ക്കറ്റിലൂടെ കടന്നുപോകുന്ന കനാലിലെ വെള്ളം ശുചീകരിക്കുന്നതാണ് ഈ പദ്ധതി. ഇതിനു പ്രത്യേക പദ്ധതി രേഖ തയാറാക്കി നല്‍കാനാണു നിര്‍ദേശം ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത് - മേയര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.
മാര്‍ക്കറ്റ് നവീകരണത്തിന്‍റെ ഭാഗമായി ബേസില്‍ കനാലിന്‍റെ ഇരു കരകളും മോടിപിടിപ്പിക്കും. ഇരു വശങ്ങളിലും മറൈന്‍ഡ്രൈവ് മാതൃകയില്‍ വിശ്രമ സൗകര്യമൊരുക്കും. ഇപ്പോള്‍ മാര്‍ക്കറ്റിലുള്ള വഴിവാണിഭക്കാരെയും ചെറുകിട കച്ചവടക്കാരെയും തട്ടുകടക്കാരെയു പ്രത്യേക സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു മാറ്റും. അവര്‍ക്കുള്ള സൗകര്യങ്ങള്‍ ഒരുക്കാന്‍ പദ്ധതി രേഖയില്‍ തുക നീക്കിവച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.
മാലിന്യ നിര്‍മാര്‍ജനത്തിനു പ്രത്യേക സൗകര്യമൊരുക്കും. മാര്‍ക്കറ്റിനുള്ളില്‍ ചെറിയ പൂന്തോട്ടങ്ങള്‍ നിര്‍മിക്കുന്നതും പ്രൊജക്റ്റിലുണ്ട്. മാര്‍ക്കറ്റിലേക്കും ബ്രോഡ്വേയിലേക്കും മറൈന്‍ഡ്രൈവില്‍നിന്നും ഷണ്‍മുഖം റോഡില്‍നിന്നും നേരിട്ടു കണക്റ്റിവിറ്റി ലഭിക്കത്തക്ക വിധത്തില്‍ റോഡ് നിര്‍മാണവും പദ്ധതി ലക്ഷ്യം വയ്ക്കുന്നു.
ബ്രോഡ്വേയില്‍ പാര്‍ക്കിങിനു പ്രത്യേക സ്ഥലം കണ്ടെത്തുകയാണു ബ്രോഡ്വേ നവീകരണത്തിന്‍റെ പ്രഥമ ലക്ഷ്യം. നടപ്പാതകള്‍ ടൈലുകള്‍ പാകി മോടിപിടിപ്പിക്കും. നഗരത്തിന്‍റെ പൗരാണിക സൂചകങ്ങളായ മാര്‍ക്കറ്റിനെയും ബ്രോഡ്വേയേയും പ്രധാന്യം നഷ്ടപ്പെടാതെ സൂക്ഷിക്കുകയാണു പദ്ധതിയുടെ ലക്ഷ്യമെന്നും മേയര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.
22 കോടിയില്‍ 11 കോടി കേന്ദ്ര സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ നല്‍കും. സംസ്ഥാന സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ വിഹിതമായി 6.6 കോടി ലഭിക്കും. 4.4 കോര്‍പ്പറേഷന്‍ നല്‍കും. ടെന്‍ഡര്‍ നടപടികള്‍ പൂര്‍ത്തിയാക്കി ഈ സാമ്പത്തിക വര്‍ഷം തന്നെ പദ്ധതിയുടെ നിര്‍മാണം തുടങ്ങും.

Rs 1,200-cr ‘Health City' to come up in Kochi

Kozhikode, Feb. 9

The Kozhikode-based Baby Memorial Hospital (BMH) has finalised plans to establish a Rs 1,200-crore ‘Health City' in Kochi.

The project, coming up at Kakkanad and 2 km away from the Seaport-Airport Road, will incorporate the guidelines and standards prescribed by the Joint Commission International of the US, according to Dr K.G. Alexander, Chairman and Managing Director, Baby Memorial Hospital. According to the plan, a hospital of international standards, costing Rs 450 crore, will be set up in the first phase of the project. With a built-up area of seven lakh sq. ft, the hospital will have 700 beds and 30 operation suites and 2,000 employees.

മൂന്നുവര്‍ഷം മുമ്പ് പ്രവര്‍ത്തനമാരംഭിച്ചതാണ് അസറ്റ്‌ഹോംസ്. ഇതിനകം 15 പാര്‍പ്പിട സമുച്ചയങ്ങള്‍ നിര്‍മിച്ച് കൈമാറിക്കഴിഞ്ഞു. 11 പദ്ധതികളുടെ നിര്‍മാണം പുരോഗമിക്കുകയാണ്. തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തെ സിഗ്‌നേച്ചര്‍ പദ്ധതിയിലെ അപ്പാര്‍ട്ട്‌മെന്റുകളുടെ ആദ്യഘട്ടം ജൂണ്‍ 10ന് കൈമാറും. കണ്ണൂര്‍ പയ്യാമ്പലത്ത് 84 ഫ്‌ളാറ്റുകള്‍ നിര്‍മിക്കാനും തേവരയില്‍ വാട്ടര്‍ ഫ്രണ്ട് പദ്ധതി ആരംഭിക്കാനും തീരുമാനിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.

Rs 1,200-cr ‘Health City' to come up in Kochi

Kozhikode, Feb. 9

The Kozhikode-based Baby Memorial Hospital (BMH) has finalised plans to establish a Rs 1,200-crore ‘Health City' in Kochi.

The project, coming up at Kakkanad and 2 km away from the Seaport-Airport Road, will incorporate the guidelines and standards prescribed by the Joint Commission International of the US, according to Dr K.G. Alexander, Chairman and Managing Director, Baby Memorial Hospital. According to the plan, a hospital of international standards, costing Rs 450 crore, will be set up in the first phase of the project. With a built-up area of seven lakh sq. ft, the hospital will have 700 beds and 30 operation suites and 2,000 employees.

Seems like kochi would be the Healthcare centre of the state or perhaps South India. Already Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) is one of the top 10 hospitals in India. Also Medical Trust, Lakeshore are some of the finest in Kerala. Other prominent hospitals are Lisie, Lourde, EMC, PVS etc. In addition to this the upcoming projects like, Polakulath Multi Speciality Hospital, Medi City and Finally the Health City. theses projects would certainly make kochi a healthcare hub! There were plans to set up an Apollo hospital at Kochi (any info on that?).

Pardon me, but I am a bit concerned about the 'bandwagon syndrome'. Someone builds a flat, some 50 others jump in and build. Someone builds a serviced apartment, and 20 others start. Someone builds a mall, 15 others does. At least with malls and serviced apartments, I guess we are saturated right now.

DKS, that's something one may wonder. But I hope you would agree that Kochi has had a big leap in population in last 4-5 years - and in proportion to that the strength of the affluent populace have also gone up. This is going to gather pace once most of the IT SEZs and other mega projects in wings take off, which in turn would happen faster UDF comes to power in 14 months time. In fact, more than saturation I nurse a fear of explosive.

Here is fact file on Volvos in two cities. Trivandrum Volvos have 10% less efficiency, even accounting for that it looks nearly impossible to bridge the revenue deficit. In Kochi clearly a route change will make it profit making.

The hi-tech Volvo bus service launched in the city a month ago will move on with renewed vigour as the service is expected to be financially viable.

The cash registers show that the seven Volvo buses now running in the city can generate more income from Kochi than from Thiruvananthapuram.

Despite the ‘starting trouble’, the bus service introduced by the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme is gathering momentum.

The assurance from the state government last week regarding the formation of a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to manage the new service seems to have fuelled KSRTC’s optimism. As per the data provided by the KSRTC, the buses have already completed 64,547 km on Kochi roads in January. The total collection fetched in a month in Kochi was Rs 23,18,532 while the eight buses operating in Thiruvananthapuram could complete 64,681 km collecting Rs 18 lakh. The average income in Kochi is about Rs 36 per km while it is Rs 28 in Thiruvananthapuram.

“Now we are not in a position to conclude that the service is running at a profit. It has to fetch Rs 47 per km to reach the break-even level. But chances are bright in Kochi,” said Sharaf Mohammed, special officer for JNNURM projects, KSRTC.

Each low-floor air-conditioned sleek bus procured at a cost of Rs 80 lakh has several unique features and is the ultimate luxury when it comes to public transport.

Sharaf said that in the second phase six more buses would be purchased out of which four would be allotted to Kochi.

“We are planning to introduce more long route buses which will pass through the city. By conducting more services through the city we expect that each 42-seater bus can record an average occupancy of 70 to 75 percent. Currently the buses record an average occupancy of 55 to 60 percent,” he added.

The official also said that the operating cost per km in Kochi was lower than in Thiruvananthapuram. “We are unable to draw parallels between Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram as the condition of roads, traffic congestion and routes are totally different. The buses plying in Kochi have an average mileage of 2.50 km per litre of diesel, while it is 2.25 km pl in the capital city,” he added.

With the introduction of more services many passengers will certainly opt for a luxury journey in Volvo buses.

Cybercity gets SEZ status

BoA grants three formal and six in-principle approvals

The Board of Approval of the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) met here today to consider proposals for setting up of Special Economic Zones and also to approve other miscellaneous requests pertaining to SEZs.

Addressing the Board of Approval members, the Chairman informed that so far 571 formal approvals have been granted for setting up of SEZs out of which 348 have been notified. He further informed that over Rs. 1,28,385 crore have been invested in the Special Economic Zones during this short span of time and direct employment of the order of 4,90,358 persons has been generated in the Special Economic Zones. During the first three quarters of current financial year, total export of Rs. 1,51,786 crore approximately has been made from SEZs.

In this meeting, 10 proposals for setting up of SEZs, including one proposal for conversion of in-principle approvals in to formal approvals were considered. The Board recommended grant of three Formal Approvals and six In-Principle Approvals.
